Higher Taste Bakehouse is located on small country acreage on the outskirts of Evandale in the north of Tasmania. The property is home to a number of beautiful and much loved rescued farm animals, Friends on the Farm sanctuary, 'where all animals are our friends'.

Since the business began trading in 2008, the biscuits have left a trail of crumbs all over Australia and with it a message that every biscuit is 'cooked with compassion'.

Higher Taste Bakehouse has attended interstate festivals such as the Vegan Festival in Ultimo Sydney and the ever popular Cruelty Free Festival hosted by Animal Liberation NSW.

All products are handmade and packaged in beautifully presented food bags being ideal for the perfect gift. The biscuits are cooked with a vegetable based margarine NUTTELEX. Rice milk is used in place of cows milk and is a light and healthy alternative.

Ragan Allison, owner of Higher Taste Bakehouse states the signifigance of supporting these events especially since it was Animal Liberation NSW who opened her eyes to the suffering and exploitation of farmed animals in 1999, a significant year when Ragan embarked upon her journey of the wonders of a plant-based diet, "It's a healthy lifestyle choice that supports the earth, the animals and us!".

The business came about over a fresh batch of chocolate hazelnut fudge brownies that were hot out of the oven and a vision of what could be. Ragan adds "It was a simple dream that became a reality and in those early days I got the much needed support from my Mum who has many years of baking knowledge". Since that day the business continues to be a growing reality, and thanks to Ragan's on-going supportive customers, the wonderful baking aromas continue to drift from the Bakehouse's windows filling the surrounding countryside with love!
